In 1972, one of the iconic Technics brand turntables was launched, a best-seller with more than 3 million units sold worldwide. Here is the return of this legendary product acclaimed around the world by both audiophiles and DJs. Direct inheritance from the iconic SL-1200 series. Find all the features that shaped the famous turntable as well as the same operating sensations.
Technics is a Japanese audio brand established by Panasonic in 1965. Since 1965, Panasonic has produced a variety of hi-fi and audio products under this brand, such as turntables, amplifiers, radio receivers, tape recorders, CD players, digital speakers and pianos. Technics products were available for sale in various countries. For turntables , history really began to be written in 1971, when Technics launched the SL-1100 on the general public market. It was at this time that the Japanese brand entered the legend of Hip Hop music thanks to DJ Kool Herc, the founding father.
Coreless direct drive motor for stable rotation
The direct drive system uses a slow-rotating motor to directly drive the platter. This system has different advantages. It offers high performance, for example in terms of rotation precision and torque power, does not require replacement of parts and maintains high long-term reliability. However, the direct drive system was criticized because it gave rise to rotational irregularities, called "cogging". Now, a new coreless direct drive motor has been developed for the SL-1210MK7. This motor uses a coreless stator. Removing the stator (iron) core eliminated the cause of the cogging. In addition, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets has been optimally improved, and the gaps between the stator and coreless rotor magnets have been optimized, thereby achieving high torque performance, equivalent to that of the SL-1210MK5. Featuring smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor delivers precise and faithful reproduction of the “groove” of an analog recording.
Height control function
The height control function allows precise adjustment of the rotation speed from ±8% to ±16%. This function operates through digital control from cursor position detection to motor rotation control, to avoid the unnecessary step of digital-to-analog conversion. It thus greatly improves performance monitoring in order to obtain precise and stable height adjustment.
Reverse playback function
The reverse playback function, which offers new possibilities for creative performance, made its first appearance in the SL-1210 series. It thus supports, in addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm type discs, a rotation speed of 78 rpm.
High sensitivity tonearm
The tonearm, which has taken center stage in the field of DJ equipment for many years, inherits the highly reliable and statically balanced universal S-shaped system. With the help of its high-precision bearings, it achieves higher initial motion sensitivity than that of the SL-1210MK6. This precision allows it to perfectly follow the groove of the vinyl to ensure excellent tracking performance while minimizing stylus bounce, even in difficult playing conditions such as scratching.
